Ahead of our 20th anniversary in 2027, Canberra Glassworks is campaigning to acquire two of Klaus Moje’s landmark works, Chromatic Evolution 1 (2012) and 2 (2013) to be permanently installed within our new building.
Klaus Moje helped shape Australian studio glass through his generosity and expertise. This acquisition ensures the legacy of Klaus Moje’s teachings, mentoring and expertise remains embedded at the heart of that future, accessible to glass artists and audiences for generations to come.

A Legacy in Glass
Klaus Moje (1936–2016) called glass the most seductive of mediums. In his hands, it became something close to poetry.
Moje is one of the most significant figures in contemporary glass. He earned major international recognition including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Glass Art Society (USA) and the Australia Council Emeritus Award. His work is held in over 60 public collections worldwide.
Trained in Germany, Moje’s pioneering kiln-forming techniques transformed the art of glass through his passion for colour, geometry and flawless craftsmanship. In 1982 he established the Glass Workshop at the Canberra School of Art in Australia. His generous teaching shaped a generation of artists and forged vital connections within the studio glass movement, including at Bullseye Glass in Portland and the Pilchuck Glass School in Washington state.
He described his philosophy as “working into the hopeful”, always seeking the next step, working with quiet integrity. Each piece he made carried that searching spirit. To own a work by Klaus Moje is to hold something of that journey.
