Katherine Shierlaw (SA)

New Graduate 2024

The New Graduates program is for artists who have recently graduated university, TAFE or other training programs and achieved significant recognition for their technical and artistic work during their studies.

Based in Ramindjeri Country, (Victor Harbor South Australia), Katherine Shierlaw is an emerging glass artist specialising in kiln forming.

Her practice explores the intersection of space, time, and the subtle connections between people and the spaces they occupy. She graduated with a Bachelor of Contemporary Art from University of South Australia in 2024. Selected for the 2024 Helpmann Academy Graduate Exhibition Katherine was also a highly commended finalist in the 2022 Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize.

” Working in the Glassworks alongside so many skilled glass artists will be both energising and inspiring. This residency represents a pivotal moment in my art practice. Spending a month immersed in experimentation, testing and exploring colour combinations, firing schedules, kiln setups, and coldworking techniques will enable me to refine my technical skills, develop conceptual depth, and create new bodies of work.”
