Artisan Residency 2024
The Artisan Residency is supported by Artisan Brisane and the Queensland Government.
Originally from in Kamberri (Canberra), Erin Conron is a glass artist based on Gubbi Gubbi Country (Sunshine Coast), Queensland. She was awarded an established artist residency by Artisan to work at Canberra Glasworks.
Erin has been involved in numerous national and international exhibitions, a finalist in numerous awards and has been acquired internationally. Erin continues to develop her practice from her recently established studio and will show new work at Artisan in Brisbane in November.
Erin Conron travelled to Canberra Glassworks to learn new techniques and produce a new collection of works. Conron’s practice explores optical effects created by layering parallel lines on separate planes of glass, resulting in moiré patterns and illusions of movement. Wall-hung works and blown glass vessels challenge viewers’ perceptions of space and form through innovative enamel application techniques.
“During my time here I will be working to complete artworks for an exhibition at Artisan. My work will include both blown and kiln formed pieces, on the surface of which I use enamel paints to draw closely spaced parallel lines which, when layered, create visual imagery of structured shape and pattern. These works will continue my explorations into examining the optical effects of moiré, form, perspective and anamorphosis. “
– Erin Conron
Newly developed works from the residency will be shown in Contemporary Queensland Glass at Artisan Brisbane from 2 November 2024 to 1 March 2025.
Contemporary Queensland Glass marks a significant step towards nurturing Queensland’s glass art community through the inaugural National Artisan Residency Program. This partnership between artisan and Canberra Glassworks, supported by Arts Queensland, aims to address the dispersed nature of Australia’s glass art scene by providing vital opportunities and connections. It represents a crucial effort to advance the state’s glass art community and showcase the exceptional talent that exists within Queensland.
