Two artists standing in the Glassworks Engine Room
This month the Glassworks welcomes two Graduates in Residence: Bronte Cormican-Jones and Jordan Benson.

Bronte Cormican Jones

Bronte Cormican-Jones is an emerging contemporary artist and writer working on Garrigal and Darramurragal land (Sydney). In 2022, Cormican-Jones graduated with first-class Honours from Sydney College of the Arts, where she studied Sculpture and Glass. Her current body of work explores relationships between architecture and the body through the ways that we interact with our reflections in glass and mirrors.

“I am really excited to be at CGW this month doing a graduate residency alongside Jordan. I’ll be primarily working in the kilns, forming some curved shapes and corners that will become freestanding sculptures. I’m also eager to work in the neon area. I’m so grateful to have mentorship from Kirstie and Rose and be surrounded by the CGW community.”

Jordan Benson

Jordan Benson is a stained glass and oil painting artist based in Naarm (Melbourne). His work reflects both scenes and objects from his experiences living in Melbourne and the environments that surround him and his roots in graffiti art. Having graduated from Melbourne Polytechnic in 2022, Jordan intends to further develop his practice at the Glassworks by expanding into processes such as kiln forming to create new body of work.

“I am having an amazing time at the Canberra Glassworks facility and enjoying meeting all of the incredible people involved here. My work currently is exploring the use of transparent fusible glass sheets as the base colours to paint illustrative designs on top of. I’m really looking forward to having Tom create some double-sided flash glass for me to experiment with in some stained glass designs as well.”
